2007 Freshman iLife Competition Rules


The following are the official rules for the Freshman iLife Competition. You must read and agree to all rules before you can participate. If you have any questions or comments about the rules, please feel free to contact us.

  1. The Freshman iLife Competition will occur between Friday, August 31 and Friday, November 9, 2007. The deadlines for submissions vary according to your group's two week session. Sessions and deadlines are as follows:

    • First Session: Friday, Aug. 31 – Friday, September 14
    • Second Session: Friday, September 14 – Friday, September 28
    • Third Session: Friday, September 28 – Friday, October 12
    • Fourth Session: Friday, October 12 – Friday, October 26
    • Fifth Session: Friday, October 26 – Friday, November 9

  2. Groups MUST complete their projects by their specific deadline. Groups should submit projects to their PA (if in a FIG) or to Christina Jenkins via DVD or CD-ROM. Email Christina at igirl19@mac.com to arrange a project pick up time. Submissions MUST include:

    • Signed Participants Agreement
    • Submission Checklist Attachment
    • Talent/Location/Music/Copyright Releases
    • Project DVD or CD-ROM

  3. A group MUST consist of three to four people.

  4. Finished projects should be between 30 (:30:00) seconds to three (3:00:00) minutes in length. An additional 60 seconds can be used for credits. For example, you may have a three-minute video or multimedia slideshow plus one minute of credits for a total running time of four minutes. Submissions longer than four minutes (4:00:00) are not eligible to win prizes. All projects must include the following credit: "This project was created as part of the 2007 Freshman iLife Competition."

  5. All content must be created/taped etc. within your group’s two-week time period. All footage shot or created at another time must be notated and appropriate permissions must be received in order for footage to be used. Animation and special effects are permitted, but must be created during your group’s two-week time period.

  6. Content of each project is at the discretion of participating groups, but should reflect positively on the University of Missouri. Judges reserve the right to disqualify any project that contains images of graphic sex or violence. There is no express prohibition on nudity or foul language; however, usage of either nudity or foul language could affect judging and limit distribution or promotion outlets. The iLife team strongly encourages students to be TASTEFUL in their content!!!

  7. Groups must have rights to any music used in projects. No more than 30 seconds may be used for any song protected under copyright. It is permissible to use pre-recorded music (e.g., royalty-free music, a friend's band's music), but groups must include a signed release with the submission. Any original music that is used will earn bonus points for judging in competition (Note: No bonus points for Proseminar grades).

  8. Groups are allowed to use other video editing software besides iMovie. However, if other software is used, it must be documented on the submission checklist attachment.

  9. Any type of video or digital camera may be used.

  10. The finished project must be submitted on a single DVD or CD-ROM.

  11. All cast and crew MUST be volunteers.

  12. In order to be certified as a Freshman iLife Competition project, each participating group must follow all rules stated above. The Freshman iLife Competition coordinators reserve the right to judge only certified projects. All certified projects are eligible for judging.

  13. The Freshman iLife Competition coordinators reserve the right to amend these rules up until the start of the Freshman iLife Competition on Friday, August 31.
